About this notice

The Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) publishes the Consumer Protection Notice to inform real estate consumers of (1) the regulatory authority of TREC over real estate license holders in Texas, (2) the rights of consumers to file complaints regarding the conduct of license holders, and (3) the existence of the Real Estate Recovery Trust Account, which may be available in limited circumstances to compensate consumers for damages caused by certain acts of license holders.

License holders, including brokerages and individual agents, are required to display this notice to consumers as part of doing business with the public.

How to file a complaint

To file a complaint against a Texas real estate license holder, contact TREC directly:

Complaints are submitted on TREC's official Consumer Complaint Form, available on the TREC website. The form requires the complainant's contact information, the license holder's information, and a written statement describing the alleged conduct.
